Sound and energy healing are ancient practices, but like many ancient practices, modern times allow us to look at ancient healing techniques with a new perspective and elaborated details, with respect to the lineages that have existed long before you and I.

Our body’s water is electrically charged

Why does this matter? Ionized mediums, like the hydrated gel that surrounds every cell in our body, not only brilliantly propagates sound waves, but also responds with changes to the electromagnetic field emitted by this electrical soft tissue.

This means that we physically receive and our impacted by sound on a cellular level and energetic level via our body’s innate electrical capabilities.

Brain wave entrainment

Sound is frequency, and these frequencies entrain our brain to match them, which can result in different states of conscious awareness. For example, when you are hyper focused your brain is producing Gamma waves. When you are very relaxed, your brain is producing Theta waves. These brainwaves go hand in hand not only with our conscious awareness in real time, but also our nervous system state.

Using sound to entrain the brain into a relaxed and meditative state is particularly healing for people who are chronically stressed or experience stressful life events.

Once the nervous system is relaxed, the body’s system shift into restorative and healing functions at the cellular and systemic level.

the link between energy work and somatic mindfulness

What does somatics have to do with energy and sound healing? Somatically based research shows that bothphysiological and our felt in-body experiences directly correspond with thoughts, feelings, and shifts in our nervous system. Additionally, a heightened awareness of our somatic experience is enough to nudge our internal processes towards a healthier, consciously elevated direction.

Practitioners who hold elevated emotions such as compassion, acceptance, and unconditional love directly impact the receiver’s nervous system in positive ways- and this may also impact the body in physically positive ways as well.

I find there is a parallel here between holding an elevated emotion and channeling Source energy (as is taught in Reiki, and also performed by indigenous energy healers around the world).

In my experience, utilizing both of these intentional practices can create transformative results in the wellness room.

honoring the ancient ways

My personal philosophy is that science does not compete with intuition. Our ancestors found ways to heal each other through intuitive and observable practice, and this process created long-lasting traditions that are still used today. Indigenous peoples use rhythmic drumming and other instruments to support emotional and spiritual healing, along with plant medicines, emotional co-regulation, and more. We do not forget the past, we build upon it as part of the living lineage of these healing arts.
